OPHIS
Open source under GPL v2, built in Canada on Frappe. OHIP billing is built in. Accounting, inventory, HR and payroll come from the same platform. OntarioMD certification is in progress, and we are working with a small group of early clinics.
OSCAR
GPL v2, from McMaster. It has OHIP billing and OntarioMD-certified versions, with internal messages only for team communication. OSCAR Pro, from WELL Health, is a commercial edition of OSCAR with per-provider fees.
OpenEMR
GPL, US-focused and ONC-certified. It uses US claim formats and has no OHIP billing, which limits its fit in Canada.
How to choose
If you need an OntarioMD-certified EMR today, OPHIS is not there yet, so talk to us about where certification stands and what that means for your clinic. If you want charts, billing and the back office on one system without per-provider licence fees, and you are open to helping shape a new product as an early clinic, OPHIS is built for that.
